Summa canisters are commonly used to collect ambient air samples in the field, which are analyzed at a later time in a laboratory. Commercially available sampling equipment for these canisters often include controls such as timers or external triggers that offer little flexibility. This paper describes a versatile system that was developed to trigger multiple canister samplers simultaneously over small geographic areas, using inexpensive wireless technology. Robust hardware allows for future software and hardware updates, and expandability.
