This paper presents the integrated FCS design approach by Liebherr-Aerospace. A case study is conducted, providing an overview on the design and integration of a stick-to-surface flight control system for a regional jet aircraft. The modular FCS architecture concept is introduced. Focus is put on the FCS design, and thus on the transfer of aircraft-level functions and top-level requirements to the design of the overall system architecture. An integrated approach for system design and validation widely utilizing system modeling is presented. Special emphasis is put on challenges of realizing robust and high-performing asynchronous multi-computer systems. Design of system mode consolidation functions as well as flight control law implementation and verification processes are discussed.
