This paper presents an algorithm for massive terrain data transmission by network in the network three dimensional GIS. First of all, use the 8 neighborhood to calculate the terrain feature points. Secondly, setting the threshold by the slope rate of the change to extract the data points which are reflected terrain trends and terrain undulation. The points extracted by the two methods above were transferred to the client through the network, and then after those points interpolated, those points were used to reconstruct three dimensional terrain in client. This network three dimensional GIS terrain data transmission method based on the terrain features can reduce the burden of network data transmission to provide a technical support to solve the network transmission the network three dimensional GIS massive spatial data.
