摘要

The main aim of the study is to develop a new control method of a back to back converter (BtBC) in ac electric drive systems (EDSs) to provide a power factor correction (PFC) and a reactive power compensation (RPC) in a grid. The research focus was concerned with the theoretical analysis of active, reactive and apparent power controlling in a system BtBC - grid. From the results obtained, we can conclude that the reactive power control in the system BtBC - grid will be developed if a new active front end (AFE) rectifier control method is used. The principal conclusion from this work is that the PFC in the point of the grid connection by the new AFE rectifier control method in BtBC for the different ac EDSs is determined. It can reduce a share of the consumption reactive power from a substation and improve the power quality. The huge prospects of the ac EDSs integration based on BtBCs in Industrial Smart Grid have been determined due to the fact that to control of reactive and apparent power flows can be provided in the system BtBC - grid.
