Wilmington’s LTCP Story: Proven Track Record of Addressing CSOs

The City of Wilmington, DE has been developing a series of increasingly improved Long TermControl Plans since the early 1990s. The City’s approach to addressing combined sewer overflowcontrol and total maximum daily load requirements is to keep their focus on key projectimplementations and performance monitoring, which has led to considerable progress inreducing pollution despite unforeseen challenges. This adaptive management approach providescontinuous environmental and operational improvements while developing valuable partnershipsthrough state, federal and local stakeholder support, and integrating innovations, such as realtime control, green infrastructure and source control to ensure sustainable future progress withmeaningful results.
