In middle reaches in the Shinano River, the river discharge decreased by getting water in the power generation dam, Miyanaka Intake Dam, and the river environment has greatly changed from its previous situation. Therefore, it was necessary to devote amount of discharge from Miyanaka Intake Dam to the river.JR-East has conducted various studies to improve the problem of the fishway.
