Evaluating the condition of the original concrete inside dams built in the early twentieth century is part of dam safety reviews and is not an easy task. Rehabilitation work has been carried out on dams on many occasions, but in a number of cases the extent and nature of the work have not been well documented and the original concrete is often hidden under new layers of undamaged material.
