The way of transport pipeline occupies an important place by their own unique advantages in the national economy, however, due to various reasons, the leakage accident of pipeline occurred frequently. Not only it causes the loss of resources and environmental pollution, but also brings the huge damage of property. This paper analyzes the principles and methods of position which base on negative pressure wave, and a comprehensive platform of pipeline leakage detection is established which based on the negative pressure wave .Analyzing the present research of pipeline leak detection and localization technology in detail. To the leak detection of heating oil pipeline, the problems which impact accurate position are analyzed in detail. The GPS system is used to eliminate the influence of mistiming. For characteristics of heating crude oil which result in the variation of velocity, using Rombery algorithm to solve the method how to position when the velocity of the transient negative pressure wave changes along the tube.
