Newmont Mining Experience with 10 meter Long Filter Bags

The 242 MW (total capacity) Newmont Mining TS Power Plant started operation in 2008. The plant includes a coal-fired boiler burning Powder River Basin (PRB) coal. Environmental equipment includes a dry flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system including a spray dryer absorber (SDA) with recycle, and a pulse jet fabric filter (PJFF). The fabric filter has six compartments, each with 832 bags, 10 m in length. The unit is nearing 4 years of operation. The PJFF pressure drop and opacity data since initial operation is summarized. Operating and maintenance experiences are discussed, including trouble shooting practiced. Results from detailed filter media tests are presented. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued an information collection request (ICR) requiring coal-fired power plants to provide emission data. The ICR data on the TS Power Plant PJFF is compared to similar operating units.
