The Research Committee on Energy, Environment and Waste had its beginnings in the late 1960s as the Research Committee on Industrial Waste, focusing on industrial waste. In the 1970s it expanded to include Municipal Solid Waste, and in the 1980s Hazardous Waste and Medical Waste. At the turn of the century it again expanded to include energy, and other environmental issues. In recent years its activities waned but last year it had a renaissance. This presentation provides some of its remarkable history as ASME preeminent research committee, and also how it plans to reinvent itself. Two new subcommittees have been formed, one in waste and one in energy. TheContinuous Performance Monitoring for Waste-to-Energy Boilers Subcommittee is based on using PTC-34 Performance Test Code for Waste-to-Energy Boilers and plans to translate it to a continuous performance monitoring program. The subcommittee has already made significant progress since its formation in October 2011. The Fuel Delivery System Upgrades for Utility Boilers Subcommittee deals with coal-fired boilers and the fuel delivery system, namely the equipment from the feeders to the pulverized burners. Since its formation in November, 201ithas also made significant progress. The presentation will cover some details of the progress of these subcommittees as well as future work. The purpose of the presentation is to recount some RC EEW history, broadcast the new RCEEW and its recent activities, and to invite others to join in.
