Memory Effect by Long-period Continuous Adsorption Method for Dioxin Sampling from Municipal Waste Incinerator and Sinter Plant

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans, denoted as PCDD/Fs in this paper, have been extensively studied after they were discovered in the flue gases and fly ash of municipal solid waste incinerators in 1977. Emissions of the PCDD/Fs from various sources have become a serious issue in many countries, and US EPA has established and legislated the regulations for municipal waste incinerators (MWIs), hazardous and medical waste incinerators, cement kilns, sinter plants, metallurgical processes, and secondary aluminum smelters. Recent studies disclose that some of the aforesaid combustion sources are not only the important emission sources of the PCDD/Fs but for the other persistence organic pollutants (POPs) such as polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PBDD/Fs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) that deserved to establish monitoring program and control strategies. Thus, monitoring the POP emissions in the flue gases are needed in order to reduce their emissions.
