Phenomenological interpretation of the leakage of the plasmon mode at a perfectly smooth metal-dielectric plane interface

摘要

The finite propagation-length plasmon wave guided along a plane metal-dielectric interface is inherently a leaky mode. The characteristics of the leakage are illustrated by a numerical experiment, and their relation with the condition of minimum TM reflection of a plane wave is discussed.
