Towards Petabit-per-Second Optical Routers

摘要

We consider technology directions for future petabit-per-second routers. We investigate the roles of optical and electronic technologies in the key buffering and switching functions. Our conclusion is that optics will have an important role in high-capacity routers, but will not completely replace electronics.
