Inductively Coupled Power Transfer (ICPT) attracts a lot of attention in recent years due to its convenience, safety, reliability and weather proof features. This paper proposes a novel ICPT compensation topology, named LC/P and consisting of an inductor, two capacitor and a loosely coupled transformer (LCT). Constant input voltage of LC/P compensation topology leads to constant output current under fully resonant condition, referred to as CVI-CCO characteristic. This characteristic is analyzed on the basis of the discussion on LC and CL resonant tank. The LCT is also carefully designed with finite element analysis software Maxwell since coupling coefficient, primary and secondary self-inductances significantly affect the efficiency, power rate and density. The employed LCT design approach can be extended to magnetic design of all ICPT systems. Theoretical analyses are verified by practical experiments. Practical output currents with different loads show an excellent CVI-CCO characteristic of LC/P compensation topology.
