The objective of the work is to design and implement a Variable Band Hysteresis Controller (VBHC) fed Induction Motor (IM) drive with fast dynamic response, constant switching frequency and minimal switching losses. In the new proposed VBHC strategy, the average pole voltage waveform is used to obtain the variable band in which each phase current error oscillates and hence making the switching frequency constant. The discontinuous-Bus Clamping (BC) Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) BC30 and BC60 which have minimum losses compared to existing Conventional Space Vector PWM (CSVPWM) are used for the third harmonic injected voltage and thereby in the implementation of variable band. Simulation studies to verify steady-state and transient performance of the proposed controller based VSI fed IM drive are carried out. The results obtained are verified on a 1 kW IM with the control implemented using the dSPACE-1103 kit.
