The heaving buoy wave power device only uses the energy of one-directional movement to generate electric power, neglecting the energy of other degrees of freedom. Based on this, an innovative buoy wave power device considering multi-freedom oscillation is projected. It has three translational degrees of freedom that are heave, sway and surge. In order to provide a reference for the device design, this paper analyzes the wave forces acting on the floating buoy theoretically. The diffraction and radiation of surface gravity waves is considered in order to calculate the horizontal and vertical forces on the buoy. Analytical expressions of the diffraction potentials and radiation potentials are obtained using the method of separation of variables. The unknown coefficients in the expressions are determined by the eigenfunction expansion matching method. The results of the paper will be used as a reference to the hydrodynamic characteristics analysis and design of the new oscillating buoy wave power device.
