Magnesium alloys have inspired a significant amount of attentionfrom researchers all over the world for cardiovascular andorthopedic applications due to their light weight, mechanicalintegrity and degradation behavior. In this investigation, castmanufactured binary, ternary and quaternary magnesium alloyswere studied for their degradation behavior by potentiodynamicpolarization tests in phosphate buffer saline solution (PBS) andPBS containing amino acids (cysteine, C and tryptophan, W) at 37oC. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests wereperformed to determine the charge transfer resistance andimmersion tests were performed to assess corrosion rate andhydrogen evolution from the alloys. Furthermore, the surfacemorphology and surface chemistry of the alloys were observed byscanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).
