In this work, a mean-field self-consistent approachbased on a generalization of the Tanaka-Mori method isintroduced to predict the mechanical response of polycrystallineMg. The key idea is to homogenize the response of grainscontaining twin domains such that a direct coupling between thetwin and parent domain is introduced. The work is particularlysuited to study Mg as it allows for a direct coupling of themechanical response of twin and parent domains. Such couplingaccounts, for the first time, for relative size and shape effects onthe development of internal strains in twin domains.
