摘要

Ustick Road is a major east/west arterial that serves a variety of land uses located in Boise, Idaho. Two recent projects have improved traffic flow along a two mile portion of the roadway. These improvements have necessitated construction of pedestrian crossing opportunities across the five lane cross section. This study looks at driver compliance at each enhanced mid-block crossing: No signal control with median refuge, an in-pavement flashing system, a "standard" pedestrian signal (red, yellow, green indication for vehicular traffic), and a HAWK signal. The number of different pedestrian crossings along a consistent roadway cross section affords a unique opportunity to observe each signal and the effects on driver yielding behavior.
