Cast-in-situ tubular piles with large diameter have great flexural rigidity and low consumption of concrete per meter. This characteristic makes it suitable for the bracing system of a foundation pit, especially among the coastal soft clay zone. Herein, through the successful design and construction of cast-in-situ tubular piles in pit excavation engineering in Wenzhou and the analysis of the surveillance data, it can be concluded that large diameter tubular piles have promising prospects in supporting pit excavation of soft clay area. A new pile tip has been proposed and used in the project.
