Experimental Measurement of Elemental Carbon Organic Carbon for Soot Producing Lab-Scale Flares

Several instruments have been used to measure multiple species emissions from a soot-producing lab-scale vertical flare. This combination of instruments allows for a unique setup in which the mass emission yields of most significant particulate matter pollutant species can be determined. Experiments are ongoing and preliminary test results are presented. The techniques and equipment outlined here will be used to generate a more extensive set of emission factor data, designed to be a useful tool for estimating emissions from flares burning associated gas mixtures in the upstream oil and gas industry.
