The methodologies and protocols developed for examining the start and idle pollutant emissions across a wide range of vehicle types. Although the data are still being analyzed, and will be included in the platform presentation, the data have shown that modern vehicles do not require extended "warm up times" for the catalytic converter to operate effectively. This optimal time varied across the pollutants, but generally averaged less than one to two minutes after a cold start, and much shorter after a hot start. Ultimately, the results will allow stakeholders and regulators to assess the on-the-ground impacts of potential vehicle emission mediation scenarios including duration of static cold starts and idling versus warm start differences.
