Although the supercharged boiler is a new power equipment, comparing with the utility boiler, it possesses higher maneuverability. Just because of this, it is still a pen-dent problem whether the Chinese surface quality inspection data of a boiler steam drum shell can be applied to that of a supercharged boiler. In order to look for the answer and in view of the shortage of an integrated instructional method, the proposed method was father simplified and exercised to the calculation of the various stresses and their resultant stress at the supercharged boiler steam drum shell highest fatigue checking point, the simplified safety assessment method of the COD design curves in the Chinese Standard of CVDA for a surface defect was selected by the comparison with BS7910, and the computing method in CVDA of a crack propagation lifetime was also selected and exercised to one example. The computed results show as follows: The employed metal mate-rial and the Chinese surface quality inspection data for this supercharged boiler steam drum shell can't guarantee the frequent start-stops and the lifetime of this supercharged boiler. So besides better metal material, optimal design, optimal boiler run modes and other technologies can be exer-cised, the further improvements to the current interrelated Chinese Standards are apparently much more important.
