Effects of corrosion on hot-rolled reinforcements have been studied in many research studies; however, little information has been published about the effects on cold rolled bars. This research analyzes 8 mm cold-rolled steel rods which have been subject to a corrosion process. Later, these bars have been tested to tensile strength, comparing their performance with that of the reference bars, which have not gone through a corrosion process. In order to analyze this process, steel bars have been embedded in mortar slabs where calcium chloride had been added when the batch was done. After curing, reinforcement has been externally short-circuited and undergone a process of accelerated corrosion, by making variable current quantities pass through each one of them. The next stage has been to extract the bars, testing them to tensile strength, and obtaining the stress-strain diagram. Strain energy density has been compared to those of the reference bars which have not suffered any corrosion process. Strain energy density, which measures energy absorption up to fracture, is analyzed and seen its correlation with resilience and ductility in the material.
