Formal Question Set AREMA Committee 16 Panel Sustainable yard conversions considering operations and engineering

At the 2018 annual conference of AREMA, as part of the Engineering Services technical sessions, Committee 16 will be holding a panel discussion concerning some of the engineering and operational considerations for converting from a hump yard to a flat yard. The session will open with a presentation of approximately 20 minutes duration covering some of the basic principles related to this topic followed by a 30-minute formal question period where the three-member panel will respond with their thoughts based on experience with yard conversion analysis and implementation projects at several railroads. The following questions have been developed for the formal question period. The moderator, Jeremiah Dirnberger, will pose the questions to predetermined respondents in the panel. The PowerPoint presentation contains some additional slides that the respondents can use if needed. At least one question from each of the three categories will be posed to the panel, and additional questions will be posed in event time allows. The panel will also open for audience questions during the final 10 minutes of the session. In the event there are no audience questions, the panel will finish up with any remaining questions that have not been answered from the formal question list.
