More and more sophisticated lighting systems are being installed in the commercial sector as designers, contractors, and facility managers become more knowledgeable about lighting technologies. This paper will discuss trends in new construction and retrofit lighting projects as seen in four years of energy efficiency incentive programs in Texas. Included in this paper is an overview of lighting technologies, legislation affecting lighting systems installed in the commercial sector, typical savings due to energy efficiency, as well as an exploration of aids and barriers to market transformation.
