Compressed air usage, compreesed air storage, compressed air leakage, and air compressor efficiency etc. are several factors that influence the efficiency of a compressed air system. Usually for those industrial plants having multiple type and size air compressors, the efficiency of each air compressor is quite different even for those with the same type and size. It has great influence on the overall system performance to match the demand with the air compressor or group operated at or near their maximum efficiency levels. One industrial plant was chosen in this article to illustrate this process. The trended data was analyzed to obtain the efficiency for each individual air compressor and the mix of several air compressors. The result showed that annual energy savings of 15 to 50 percent can be achieved for a whole year using an optimized operation schedule.
