THE BASICS OF DEVELOPING ENERGY PROJECTS: FROM FINANCING TO POWER SALES

Successfully developing a clean energy project requires a thorough understanding and analysis of all aspects of the proposed project from start to finish. To obtain financing for the project, the developer will be expected to perform and document this analysis in the early planning stages of the project. Because most proposed clean energy projects never obtain financing, the developer's goal must be to present to prospective lenders and investors a clear, complete plan that captures all aspects of the project and stands out from the many other projects competing for lenders' attention. In addition, the developer must develop a good understanding of the costs, actions and documentation associated with each stage of the project in order to determine from the developer's perspective whether the project is in fact technologically and financially feasible. This seminar includes a discussion, at a high level, of the elements of a typical small to mid-sized clean energy project. The developer will need to be familiar with and address all of these elements to successfully see his or her project through to comoletion.
