Aiming at the requirement of high birefringence and low confinement loss in fiber-optic sensing systems and optical communication networks,a new type of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with mix-structure is proposed. A varying air hole structure is adopted in this paper,and high birefringence can be obtained by changing the diameter of the two air core which locating on symmetry position in the inner cladding. In this paper,birefringence,dispersion and confinement loss characteristics of photonic crystal fiber are analyzed by using Finite Element Method (FEM),and simulation results show that birefringence can reach the level of 10-3 by changing wavelength and the size of inner cladding. In addition, the confinement loss can reach the level of 10-3 dB / m.
