The information of stress and strain distributions in the femur during gait movement is important for prosthesis design and surgical procedures. The purpose of this study is to determine the stress and strain distribution at 10%, 30%, and 45% of the gait cycle. Previous femoral stress analyses were based on the method of fixation of distal femur. This study presents a finite element analysis in which the pelvis and the femur are supported as a whole model, applied the fixed constraints on the pelvis, and limited the rotation of the two axes at the femoral head center. The results of this study indicated that the femur is still loaded in bending, the bending moment decreases. The values of the strains were higher in medial and lateral aspects of the femur and lower in anterior and posterior aspects of the femur, indicating that greater bending in the coronal plane and less bending in the sagittal plane. The relatively small displacement was observed in the femoral head center.
