A Method for Detecting the Center and Radius of the Circle

This paper presents a method for detecting the centers and radii of the circles which will be applied to locate the circles in the image. The method is constructed by the following three steps: (1) For each pixel, the feature circle radius (FCR) and feature circle energy (FCE) are computed to obtain the FCR and FCE distribution map of the whole image. (2) Local maxima are determined in the FCE distribution map for locating the potential centers of the circles. (3) The ratio of the FCE to FCR is solved for each obtained local maxima, and the one whose ratio satisfies the threshold restriction is reserved, which is corresponding to the center of a circle, and the FCR of it is the radius of the circle. Synthetic images and natural images are used to test the capability of the proposed method and the experiments show good accuracy despite of the presence of different noises.
