A Pluggable Mobile Directory Architecture suitable to the Mauritian Context

At the crossroad of a mobile technology led service oriented society, Mauritius is to gain enormously if it is to widen the number of mobile services being offered. Traditional paper-based or web-based directory services have long been popular services to search for personal or business details. This paper proposes a Mobile Directory framework to provide the same existing facilities, but via a mobile interface taking into account that nearly all Mauritians possess a mobile phone and mobile coverage is near 100%. The advantage of such framework is that it is easily pluggable to existing web-directory services and is based on the SMS architecture. Hence, instead of scrapping existing systems, the solution provided is an add-on. To test the solution we implemented both a mobile application and a webdirectory. Testing the system proved that the architecture proposed is robust, reliable and efficient and can be a promising additional service for mobile phone users in Mauritius.
