Appliance of direct and Indirect Demand Side Management

Demand Side Management (DSM) has always been an important module of today's idea of a Smart Grid. Yet, one has to distinguish between the different types of DSM and their fields of appliance: the private or industrial sector, large storage facilities or small private processes which have to be bundled to take effect. The publication at hand defines and exemplifies DSM and highlights its significant role in today's Smart Grid Vision. To underline these statements a method for controlled charging of battery electric vehicles is being introduced. Second, a field study in a small German distribution grid is presented as an example for incentive based Indirect DSM. The effects of the field test are presented, showing, that monetary based effects have a significant impact on supply points in medium voltage power grids.
