摘要

The interfacial shear strength of single carbon filaments embedded in an epoxy matrix wasstudied using the single-fiber fragmentation test and Weibull analysis. Three fiber surfaceconditions were prepared: sized, unsized, and unsized with carboxylic acid functionalized carbonnanofibers. Electrophoretic deposition was used to place the nanofibers at the interface. It wasdetermined that removal of sizing led to an 11% decrease in tensile strength and a 27% decreasein interfacial shear strength compared to sized fibers. The deposition of nanofibers increased theinterfacial shear strength by 15% and 56% compared to the base sized fiber and unsized fibersamples, respectively.
