EFFECT OF BLEND REFINING ON PAPER PROPERTIES OF APMP AND CHEMICAL PULP

Alkaline peroxide mechanical pulp (APMP) fibers are more rough and stiff than that of chemical pulp fibers due to the high lignin content, while the bonding strength in paper is weaker. That’s the limitation of high APMP content application in paper products. This work attempts blend refining of chemical pulp and APMP. Under the umbrella of chemical fibers, there’s no more beating force acted directly on fibers of APMP, when the fibers are disintegrated and fibrillated; at the same time, the paper properties of chemical pulp are also modified in this refining process. The pulp of NBKP or LBKP was blended and refined with APMP at appropriate proportion, and then handsheet were made. The results show that the tensile strength and bulk of paper with blend-refined pulps of APMP and NBKP or LBKP were improved in comparison of that of the paper made of separate-refined APMP pulp. When the freeness of APMP was 350mL, percentage of furnish APMP and LBKP were 20% and 80%, respectively, better sheet properties were attained, and the respond bulk is 1.82 cm3/g, and tensile index 59.65 N·m/ respectively.
