In this paper we study the soliton and multi-soliton solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional Zakharov equation(ZE) with a = b = −1. The first kind of soliton or soliton-like solutions of the ZE are obtained by Lou''s method. By carefully choosing the arbitrary functions in the resulting linear partial differential equation, explicit soliton solutions may be obtained. The second kind of solutions obtained are a vast kind of multi-soliton solutions. A special ansatz is proposed for getting these multi-soliton solutions.
