Sedimentation rate and flux in the intertidal wetlands of Luoyang River and Jinjiang River

Based on the analysis of 210Pb radioactivity of the cores collected from intertidal wetlands of Luoyang River and Jinjiang River in 2008, this paper analyzed the vertical distribution and change characters of 210Pbex, and discussed the variation and infection factors of deposition rates and sedimentation flux. The results showed that both of the cores were affected to a certain extent, such as bioturbation, storm and seismic disturbance. The average sedimentation rate and flux were 1.085 cm·a−1 and 0.789 g·a−1·cm−2 in the intertidal wetland of Luoyang River. For the intertidal wetland of Jinjiang River, the average sedimentation rate and flux were 0.566cm·a−1 and 0.309 g·a−1·cm−2, respectively. Since 1950, the sedimentation flux of both locations has been on the rise due to the impact of human activities, which caused a significant increase of the terrestrial matter influx. The abnormal increasing sedimentation flux might be related to the increase of regional rain, which was caused by climate change such as typhoon and rainstorm.
