ANALYSIS OF AIR TRANSPORTATION DEMAND AND AIRPORT CAPACITIES IN THE 2014 FOOTBALL WORLD CUP IN BRAZIL

The announcement of several large international sporting events to take place in Brazil, over the nextyears, has created great concern if the capacity of the airport infrastructure of the Country will beready to supply the air transportation demand. From July 2009 the growth of passenger demand in theBrazilian airports has greatly increased and by October 2010 approximately 23% growth was observedusing year-to-year for the same month. This growth clearly indicates that the market trend forBrazilian air transportation is approaching new levels. The greatest international sporting eventscertainly mean added demand. Brazil will host the World Football Cup in 2014, with games takingplace in 12 different cities. One of the critical factors is that currently some airports already presentcongestion. This paper discusses airport capacity for the cities that will host the 2014 Brazil WorldCUP , searching to illustrate their deficiencies.
