In spite of their limitations, whole-body human thermal models complement and sometimes provide the only possible alternative to very expensive, difficult to perform, testing with human subjects. In addition, thoughtful analysis of human thermal behavior under stressful conditions forces one to define important assumptions and evaluate their consequences. Because that is something most physiologists are incapable of, or at least not interested in doing, it represents an interesting opportunity for engineers who have an interest in how the human body functions, which is a most fascinating subject in its own right.
