Using GPS location data of specific transport shipments in order to schedule and re-schedule further last mile transport routes is state of the art and termed dynamic scheduling. But in practical business applications this is still not implemented to a large extend as the actual decision-making process under time restriction is too complex for simple tour planning algorithms. Therefore further software and simulation systems are needed in order to check viable decision paths in operational scheduling e.g. last mile transports. This article discusses the use of agent-based decision support systems in order to identify the re-scheduling alternatives with the highest business value.
