摘要

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is currently on track to deliver ever increasing integrated luminosity to the experiments studying proton-proton collisions. There is a plan to significantly upgrade the accelerator in 2020 to increase the instantaneous luminosity by a factor of 10 compared to than what the current experiment is capable of, to the level of 1036 cm−2 s−1. The new accelerator is alternatively referred to as either Super-LHC (sLHC) or High-Luminocity LHC (HL-LHC). This upgrade will necessitate a complete replacement of the ATLAS tracker due to the elevated radiation hardness requirement.
