This paper presents an evaluation on off-axis strength of wood considering the failure criterion of Tsai and Wu. This criterion requires strength coefficients that are obtained by experimental data from uniaxial and biaxial tests. The failure coefficient studied was F_(l2), which evaluates the failure surface to be opened or closed. Hankinson's formula is also considered to compare the obtained results. Uniaxial tests on wood specimens of the Brazilian species, Goupi glabra and Pinus elliottii, at different orientations in relation to the grain, as well as shear tests and biaxial compression were carried out. The analysis of the obtained results indicated reasonable accuracy.
