Frames composed of posts and hanging walls are regarded as important seismic resistant elements of Japanese traditional wood houses. First in this paper, the results of a series of shake table tests on frames with clay hanging walls are summarized. Next, a simple calculation method to estimate load-displacement curves of such frames is discussed. The comparison of the calculation and test results reveals that the calculated load-displacement curves and the failure mode agreed well with the test results. And also the estimation of the displacement by sliding at the bottom of post is discussed. The results of time history analyses considering the friction between the post and the foundation stone agreed fairly well with the test results of the specimens without anchor.
