摘要

The physics of edge buildup of an aluminized steel strip was evaluated with the aid of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and metallographic analysis. The mechanism of buildup is explained based on flow characteristics and thermophysical properties of the metal coating. Results of metallographic characterization were in agreement with CFD simulation results. CFD simulation is shown to provide insight into the interaction of pressure, shear stress and surface tension acting on the liquid metal resulting in the observed buildup profiles and be an aid to understand the effectiveness of corrective measures.
