IMPROVED HYDROGEN ANALYZER SYSTEMS WITH ENHANCED CONTAMINANT TOLERANCE

An improved hydrogen analyzer system will be presented for a wide range of process monitoring applications. The analyzer is based on palladium-nickel alloy thin films, protected by advanced material coatings and has the capability to measure hydrogen under a wide variety of process gas matrices and contaminant streams. Improvements and field results in solid state hydrogen specific analyzer technology introduced in ISA AD 2008 will be discussed. The hydrogen analyzer performance, installation in refinery and petrochemical applications over the past two years will be outlined. New applications enabled by the real-time hydrogen measurements provided by the analyzer will be discussed along with comparison data from gas chromatographs. The presentation will discuss results and applicability of the analyzer in refineries (catalytic reformers, hydrocrackers, hydrotreaters, isomerization units, and hydrogen plants), chemical plants (urea, ammonia, and ethylene), air separation plants, gasification plants. New applications enabled by real-time hydrogen measurements in syngas, PSA hydrogen management, optimization and balancing will be briefly discussed.
