This paper describes an automatic generation control (AGC) scheme that distributes the load sharing effort among the controlled generating units according to the individual spinning reserves and loading and deloading rates. It is proposed a ramping rate limitation logic that prevents the AGC output signals from changing faster than what the units can deliver and an additional acceleration logic to keep the overall control speed constant. The simulation results of a study case show the robust performance of the proposed AGC scheme, which is suitable for microgrids and islanded power systems with generating units unevenly dispatched and with different ramping rates.
