In order to study the effect of rosette packing in sodium alkali FGD process, a pilot test in a packed tower of diameter 0.5m was done. Several important factors affecting SO2 desulfurization efficiency were tested individually. These parameters included pH value of absorption solution, liquid-gas ratio (L/G), temperature of inlet flue gas, superficial superficial gas velocity and initial concentration of Na2SO3. The experimental results showed that SO2 removal efficiency may be over 80% under the following conditions: the height of packing is 1m, pH value is 6-7, value of L/G is 2-3L/m3, superficial gas velocity is 1-1.5m/s, inlet temperature of flue gas is under 50 ??, and initial concentration of Na2SO3 is 0.3-0.5mol/L. Good SO2 removal efficiency can be achieved when rosette packing is used to purify flue gas which has large flow and low concentrations. The experimental data could provide the necessary basic data for the design, handling and operation of industrialized scale FGD facilities.
