In this paper, an optimum design problem to obtain a set ofoptimum parameters for a nonlinear CBIS that contains asupporting member having asymmetric spring stiffness in tensionand compression is formulated. The transfer function of theoptimized nonlinear CBIS indicates that it can outperform aTVMD system having symmetric stiffness spring. We conducteda time-history analysis to verify the optimum design derivedusing the SQP method and confirmed that the nonlinear CBISefficiently mitigated the seismic response achieving dampingenhancement effect.
