AGADE aims for analysing and comparing a set of different commercial of-the-shelf small 3-axes magnetometer assemblies as well as data analysis methods. The commercial off-the-shelf magnetometers were launched together with a high precision magnetometer on-board a ballistic rocket to an altitude of 87 km in a 15-minute flight. After the flight, the resulting data was used for evaluating ideas for advanced on-board magnetic field data analysis software, which could be used in pico satellites' attitude determination systems as well as in an experimental orbit determination system based on pattern recognition algorithms. Concluding, the experiment can not be treated as a success in terms of its initial aims but it highlighted more profound aspects needing further investigation. This paper deals with the concepts behind the experiment as well as the data evaluation approaches.
