The wrist extensor ECRB operates primarily on the descending limb of the force-length curve in the healthy wrist (i.e., at sarcomere lengths greater than 2.8 urn). This finding is in general agreement with intraoperative measurements of sarcomere lengths in ECRB. Knowing the sarcomere operating lengths of the healthy ECRB can inform surgical planning for procedures such as tendon releases and tendon transfers, which are designed to improve function by restoring normal sarcomere length in individuals with neuromuscular injury or disease.
